CDM State of California Beach area
The Spanish named "CORONA DEL MAR" - Crown of the Sea.
This is an area of the City of Newport Beach, situated 50 miles south of Los Angeles, 4 miles west of OC John Wayne Airport and 70 miles north of San Diego, nestling at the foothills looking at the Pacific Ocean. Corona del Mar area stretches from the bluff at the south end of Newport Beach and includes some of the city's famous residential areas.
The streets of Corona del Mar have been named after flowers, which run alphabetically, from Acacia to Poppy. Each street is lined with different variety of trees, with flower gardens on display on each of the streets, the street named after those flowers.
Corona del Mar was a small village until late 1920s and was reached by boat from the Balboa peninsula, at high tide. It could also be reached by a muddy dirt road, crossing the Irvine Ranch. There are numerous landmark places to visit, starting from the shops to restaurants. The picturesque Corona del Mar coastline has beautiful sand beaches, coves and tide pools.
Homes located above the beaches have spectacular views. The roads there have look-out-points, from where you can enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean.
Directly to the south is Crystal Cove State Park, which presents a different landscape with open grassland and hills. Part of this park is known as El Moro Canyon in northern Laguna Beach and has a trail for hiking and mountain bicycling.
"Big Corona" beach is a good family spot with mild waves for novice and young swimmers. A few blocks south is the "Little Corona," a favorite ocean tide-pool place.
To the north of Laguna Beach, there are many small and rugged coves, where you will visit for snorkeling and scuba diving.
Sherman Library & Gardens is situated on a 2.2 acre of land and is the Corona del Mar horticultural retreat. This garden features a living plant museum, within the setting of its immaculate gardens, with patios and conservatories, connected together by wide brick pathways, lined with blooming flower beds and bubbling fountains. The library is a research center for the dedicated study of the Pacific Southwest.
The homes and properties at Corona del Mar are located near the heart of the village and have been there for over 40 years. Corona del Mar State Beach is a popular place for swimmers. The half-mile long sandy beach framed by cliffs and a rock jetty that forms the east entrance to Newport Harbor. The beach is also popular with surfers and divers.
History of Corona del Mar
Until the late 1920s, Corona del Mar was a tiny village, reached from the peninsula by small boat at high tide, or by a muddy dirt road that crossed over the Irvine Ranch. Today, Corona del Mar offers landmark places to visit and some of the most trendy shops and restaurants.
Beaches
"Big Corona," in Corona del Mar, is the perfect family spot, with mild waves for young swimmers, while "Little Corona", a few blocks south is a favorite tidepool spot. The many small, rugged coves north of Laguna Beach make for great snorkeling and scuba diving, while the grassy parkland along the city's Main Beach is the perfect spot to watch a pro volleyball match or a pick-up game of basketball. Farther south, Salt Creek Beach Park, just below the awesome Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel resort, is one of the best swimming beaches in Orange County.
Crystal Cove State Park (also known as El Moro Canyon in northern Laguna Beach). This trail provides a great opportunity for loop style rides. The park is almost entirely fireroad with a few good singletrack exceptions. The park landscape differs from that of almost any other park in OC. It is mostly open grassland and open hills with minimal trees.
